Stitched Snapshot: words and pictures

Wednesday, February 12, 6:00 – 8:00pm @ MoA

Cost: $30 for one person or $50 for two

by Jane Waggoner Deschner

Take old photos, let them speak to you, and memorialize them through embroidered words!

This workshop is led by Jane Waggoner Deschner who is the named artist in “Remember Me,” an exhibition that will be open from January 24 – March 16. She will be taking you through a journey where you will learn techniques and processes to stitch directly onto old photos quotes, sayings, or whatever it is that the photo is speaking to you. It is a wonderful way to reflect on who a person was or may have been during their lifetime.

All supplies provided including old photos, but you are welcome to bring your own!

Artist statement:
Disappointing experiences and unmet expectations of “happy family” have zigzagged through my life, leading to my fascination with twentieth century found photographs. People take snapshots and studio portraits out of love; they’re creating a history by recording a history. Through other people’s family photos, I explore our shared human experiences to better understand my own. Engaging with the anonymous, remixed tributes stimulates nostalgia, evokes warm personal memories, and reminds us of our social connections.
