Artified Naughty Tea Towels

Get ready for a playful and relaxed art class where students can let their creativity run wild on simple tea towels. This fun and casual session will guide participants through artifying the towels using a variety of paint techniques like stains, splatters, and freeform designs. Once the paint foundations are laid down, the real fun begins – embellishing each towel with a cheeky, embroidered “naughty or nice” saying dreamed up by the student themselves. Whether going for a suggestive wink or an outright bold statement, the possibilities are endless to stitch a personalized, tongue-in-cheek phrase that brings extra flair to the artsy tea towel creation. With no serious artistry experience required, this class encourages a judgment-free atmosphere of creative expression and hands-on crafting. Prepare to get a little messy while designing one-of-a-kind kitchen linens that are certain to add a punch of personality to any home.

Heather Patterson

Bethany Economos is a mixed media artist whose work is often influenced by her surroundings and the world. Her background in Fiber Arts (BFA Tyler School of Art 2001) shows in the hand embroidered stitching and the other surface design techniques. She has moved with her family 14 times in the last 20 years, most recently to Colorado during the first Covid shutdown in 2020. The shutdown (and lack of art supplies) led her to explore the incorporation of upcycled materials and unconventional items into her latest works. This “make do and mend” attitude has positively impacted her life and her work.

Heather Patterson holds an MFA from the University of California, Berkeley and currently lives and works in Colorado. She has been awarded several Public Art commissions including a 10’x23’ painting for the Westin Hotel and Convention Center at Denver International Airport, a 8’x16’ painting that is in the main entry of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, several outdoor large scale public murals in Boulder, CO, Denver, CO, Superior, CO, and Longmont, CO. While at UC Berkeley, Patterson received an art department grant from the Berkeley Art Museum. She has taught painting in colleges across the west, and participates in projects that include work for products from snowboard decks to wine labels.

Patterson’s work is represented in countless private, corporate, and municipal collections around the world, including the University of California, San Diego Medical Museum in San Diego, CA, Children’s Hospital Art Museum in Iowa City, IA, Union Denver, Denver, CO, the Hilton Waikiki, Waikiki, HI; the Bellagio in Las Vegas, NV; Peninsula Shanghai, Waitan; SONY San Diego, CA; the Children’s Hospital in Denver, CO; Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL; Wells Fargo, Beverly Hills, CA; Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, NV; and Amber Bay, China, Charles Schwab in Denver, CO, Kaiser Permanente in Dublin, CA, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, the Denver International Airport, as well as numerous others. Her exhibitions include solo shows at galleries across the country. She has also participated in exhibitions including Art Basel/Miami Beach Art Fair, ArtMRKT San Francisco, the New York Affordable Art Fair, Sonoma Museum of Visual Art, Arvada Center, and San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, among others.
