Dinghy Rig and the Museum of Art | Fort Collins are pleased to introduce to Colorado audiences Timothy David Orme’s 2021 short film fulcrum. In fulcrum, Orme, who is known for his experimental and cross-genre films and animations, opens up a space for quiet reflection and meditation. Through repetitious, seemingly endless, labor – that of rowing, the “terrifying banality” of simply doing a job morphs into invocations of sinking, flying, revolving, or flipping on one’s head.
Timothy David Orme is a writer, filmmaker, and animator. His short films and animations spanning nearly every genre (experimental, narrative, music video, and documentary) have been shown at film festivals and art venues all over the world, including European Media Arts Fest, National Gallery of Art, Jihalva International Documentary Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Philadelphia Film and Animation Festival, and Raindance among others. Orme’s film present in this show, fulcrum, won best animation at the 2022 Dam Short Film Festival, 2022 Arizona International Film Festival, 2002 Liverpool Underground Film Festival, was a juried film at the 2022 Thomas Edison Film Festival, and was featured on Short of the Week. As a writer, Orme has published two books of poems (Oponearth and Catalogue of Burnt Text), a chapbook containing one chapter of an intentionally unreadable novel (Reflummuxology: or, a Navel Inverse), and various book and animation reviews in publications ranging from the Colorado Review to ASIFA Magazine. Orme is currently an Associate Professor of Animation and SFX at California State University, Monterey Bay.
Dinghy Rig is a collaborative artist-run art production and exhibition program launched by Aitor Lajarin-Encina and Marius Lehene. Timothy David Orme’s fulcrum show is the fourth installment of a long-term collaboration with the Museum of Art | Fort Collins, which is hosting the Dinghy Rig shows in what used to be the building’s vault. The project benefits from the generous support of Peter D. Springberg, MD.
