MoA Community Anthology: “To See Inside”

Call for Poetic Interpretations of Artwork

Ekphrasis: A vivid, often dramatic, verbal description of a visual work of art. Simply, art from art.

The Museum of Art Fort Collins invites visitors to poetically interpret our new exhibitions “To See Inside: Art, Architecture and Incarceration” and “A Year of Killings.” For the duration of the exhibition from January 26 to March 17, 2024, guests may submit up to 3 original poems inspired by any of the pieces in the show.

We welcome poems that offer a unique perspective, capture an emotion or reaction the art elicits, focus on a striking detail, or recreate the scene or subject using lyrical language. Poems may be in any style the poet chooses.

Submissions can be made at our front desk, online through our website, or by emailing [email protected]. Guests may submit throughout the exhibition and, after the first submission, will receive free admission to return to the exhibition during its run.

On the afternoon of March 9 from 1-4pm we will have a public reading of the poems. Throughout the afternoon, poets are encouraged to take the stage and read their poems while guests enjoy refreshments. MoA will be open to the public at regular admission during the reading, but those who submit poems are allowed in for free along with 2 guests. More details to come closer to the date!

Those who wish to participate may submit up to 3 poems throughout the exhibition. After the first submission, you will receive free admission, plus 1 guest, through March 17, 2024.

Poems must be submitted by March 7 in order to be eligible for the reading on March 9, 2024.

This is NOT a judged poetry contest. It is a form of literary expression unique to the way that YOU experience visual art.
