Docent Program

Smart_Docent_3

Do you love art?
Would you like to learn more about it?
Would you like to share your enthusiasm and knowledge about art with others?

If you would like to become a Fort Collins Museum of Art docent, sign up for a training program that meets as needed for each exhibit. There is no prerequisite beyond interest! Upon completion of the training, you will give tours of FCMOA exhibitions to K-12 students and adults.

For more information about the program, contact Kali Dhayatkar, Volunteer & Events Coordinator at 970.482.2787 or email at [email protected]

FAQ

I am an artist. Can I submit my portfolio?

Thank you for your interest in exhibitions at FCMOA. If you would like the curatorial staff to learn more about your work, please feel free to send written materials and reproductions or submit your materials online to [email protected]. We would need to see a resume, statement, cover letter and biography as well as images (in digital format). We cannot accept original works of art. Due to the volume of correspondence we receive, we may not able to respond directly to each and every submission and we cannot assume responsibility for or guarantee the return of any materials that are submitted.

Materials may be sent to: Curatorial Department, Fort Collins Museum of Art, 201 S. College Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80524

I found a painting in my grandmother’s house. Is it real? What’s it worth?

The museum does not perform identifications, authentications, or valuations. You can find a certified appraiser at www.appraisers.org. An auction resource like Christie’s or Sotheby’s, or even an online auction site like eBay, can help you learn more about the value of your object.

I have an artwork that needs to be cleaned. Who should I call?

The museum cannot endorse specific conservators. Excellent information on selecting a conservator is available on the American Institute for Conservation website at http://aic.stanford.edu/public/select.html.

Where can I learn more about a specific artist or type of art?

You can research artists and art in many different ways. Start your search online at a site likewww.artcyclopedia.com or www.askart.com. You should also search your local library; librarians are great at getting hard-to-find information, so be sure to ask!
