Student from 2023 “Art and the Environment” Camp

Join us at the intersection of art, nature, and environmental science! During this 5 day camp, we will use art as a lens for exploring the natural world. A typical afternoon will include demonstrations of basic art techniques, brief lessons on environmental science or wildlife topics, one or more art projects, and a snack (provided, but you can bring your own!)

Each day will have a different nature-based theme. Some examples of what we will be exploring: forest and trees, Colorado wildlife, plants and wildflowers, seasons and cycles of nature, and the night sky. While we will be using various artistic mediums, it will be primarily drawing and painting!

Instructor: Valerie Doebley

As an illustrator and trained environmental scientist, Valerie is a bit obsessed with trying to
present the complexity of the natural world in a beautiful way. By incorporating her artwork into
scientific diagrams and educational materials, Valerie seeks to share a view of nature through the eyes
of a scientist.
