Tortilla press printmaking is a technique that uses a tortilla press to create prints from a painted foam plate or foam sheet.\n\n\n\nThis is a great class for Parents/Guardians to take with their kids, as well as a fun way to learn a long time-honored art technique. Perfect for a quick after school bonding!\n\n\n\nAbout Carlos Fresquez and Francisco Zamora:\n\n\n\nYou will find Carlos’ and Frank’s artwork in the current exhibition, Nepantla. Together, they form the two person art collective, Los Supersonicos.\n\n\n\nLos SupersonicosThe works of Los Supersonicos began in 1998 as the result of a sought and very natural collaboration between, Carlos Fresquez in the U.S. and Francisco Zamora living (at one time) in Mexico. Our early work was created in separate countries. Our approach is unique as we each paint original contributions to our shared project. We create and then recreate these works to look at the multilayered underpinnings of Chicano cultural identity. This introspection has led to work that we both mock and pay homage to traditional icons.Our tag team paintings display the melding of Mexican, U.S. and global culture in the 21st century. We explore the past indigenous histories of the Americas combined with the complexities of being Chicano.
